Theme: Music
Even if they havenʼt read it, most people are aware of Orwellʼs novel 1984 and the impact it has had on Western cultural and political discourse over the years. This design is, on the surface, about the year 1984 and it being a good year for music, which it was-just Google it! However, the ʻOH WELLʼ not only connects it to the author of 1984 but also offers a commentary on the blasé nature of the cultural and political discourse around the novel and essentially saying that people might use the themes and quotes from the novel to deliver a warning of the dangers of totalitarianism that exist in our world, but that at the end of the day theyʼre just uttered words; and nobody is actually heeding those warnings. The ʻAt Least It Was A Good Year For Musicʼ indicates the blasé nature of this discourse. The image also contains a vinyl record which on first view also resembles a camera.
